Juneteenth Celebration In Part Of Burlington County Set For Thursday

Three different communities are taking part in the event, organizers said.

PALMYRA, NJ — Cinnaminson, Riverton and Palmyra are joining together to commemorate Juneteenth, Palmyra said on its website.

The event will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Chief Payton I. Flournoy, Sr. Memorial Park in Palmyra, organizers said. If it rains, the event will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., organizers continued.

Music and food will be available during the festivities, organizers said.

Juneteenth was established as a federal holiday in the United States within the past several years to celebrate the emancipation of Black people from slavery, Patch has previously reported.

The event also recognizes the ways that Black people have enriched American communities. organizers of the local event said.

Riverton and Palmyra began their own Juneteenth celebration two years ago, the Palmyra website said. Cinnaminson will join those two communities for the 2022 event, the website continued.
