Lottery Rarity Worth $500,000 To South Jersey Winner

A $50,000 ticket was transformed into a $500,000 winner as a result of the Power Play option.

A lottery rarity took place earlier this week, and one shopper at a South Jersey Wawa is $500,000 because of it, according to New Jersey Lottery officials. The winning ticket was sold at a Wawa on Route 206 in Vincentown, Burlington County, Wednesday night.

The winning numbers for Wednesday night’s Powerball were 04, 07, 14, 46 and 59. The Red Power Ball number was 22. The Multiplier number was 10. The ticket itself won $50,000, which would put a smile on just about anyone’s face.

That smile must have turned into unbridled exuberance when the ticket buyer realized that total was increased to $500,000 because they played the Power Play. The winner or winners have not yet been identified by lottery officials.

“Congratulations to all of the lottery players who purchased winning tickets and to the retailers that sold them,” Lottery Acting Executive Director John M. White said. “I’d like to remind players to purchase their Powerball tickets with a winning attitude and add Power Play to the ticket purchase. Power Play doubles the second prize from one million dollars to two million dollars and multiplies all of the seven lower prize sets available in the game by the number drawn that evening. The jackpot prize is not multiplied.”

The Powerball jackpot rolls to $145,000,000 for the next drawing to be held Saturday, Feb. 3 at 10:59 pm.

It is the second time since the Power Play option — which costs $1 more to play — was instituted in 2015 that it was applied to a winning ticket, according to nj.com. It can only be played when the jackpot is $150 million or less.
