A South Jersey man has been convicted of holding a woman hostage in her apartment while he sexually assaulted her, then trying to tamper with the investigation, authorities announced.

Michael W. Williams, 39, of Lindenwold, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count of terroristic threats, one count of witness tampering and one count of impersonating a police officer following a five-week trial, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

A jury found that Williams locked a woman in her Lindenwold apartment and sexually assaulted her on June 21, 2016, authorities said. After he was arrested, the prosecutor’s office said he called the woman from the Camden County Correctional Facility. He pretended to be a police officer and tried to scare her into not testifying, according to authorities.
