Man Dies In Wrong-Way Crash On Turnpike In Burlington Co.: Police

The man crossed onto the wrong side of the highway and hit a truck head-on, authorities said.

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — A man died after his SUV crossed onto the wrong side of the New Jersey Turnpike on Thursday in Burlington County and hit a truck head-on, authorities said.

The crash unfolded just before 9 p.m. Thursday on the New Jersey Turnpike in Mount Laurel.

Varlee Kamara was driving southbound when his Toyota SUV crossed onto the northbound side, said State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.

A Freightliner box truck collided with Kamara's vehicle head-on, Lebron said.

Kamara, 37, of Newark, died from his injuries, while the truck driver came away with minor injuries.

State Police do not know where Kamara crossed into the northbound lanes, and it's unclear what caused him to do so.

The crash remains under investigation.
