Man Indicted For Murder In Stepfather's Stabbing

Stephen J. Paul was indicted this week in the death of 70-year-old Edward Williams.

A Burlington County man has been indicted on murder and other charges in connection with the fatal stabbing of his stepfather over the summer, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced.

Stephen J. Paul was indicted on one count of murder in the first degree, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

He has been detained since he was arrested on Aug. 1, 2016. At about 2 p.m. on that day, police were called to Paul’s apartment by a relative who believed 70-year-old Edward Williams was inside. Paul wouldn't allow the caller inside, but he did allow police to enter the apartment.

Once inside, police say they found Williams, who had suffered several lacerations to his upper body. Williams, a Westampton resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police found a knife they believe was used in the attack inside the apartment, and Paul was arrested without incident. The indictment was returned this week and signed by Coffina. An arraignment will be scheduled soon in Superior Court.
