Man Killed When Wife Crashes Car Into Tree In Delran: Police

Jamar Rentie was killed when his wife lost control of their car on Hartford Road Sunday night.

DELRAN, NJ — A 38-year-old Mount Laurel man was killed when the car in which he was a passenger left the road, struck a utility pole and flipped over in a wooded area, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Delran Township Police Chief Alfonso A. Parente Jr. announced.

Jamar Rentie was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, in the 100 block of Hartford Road. He was a front-seat passenger in a car being driven south on Hartford Road by his wife, 35-year-old Tameka Lawson, police said.

They were both extricated from the car by the Delran Fire Department. Lawson was taken by the Delran Emergency Squad to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro, where she was released after an evaluation.

The results of toxicology tests on blood drawn from Lawson will be considered when determining whether she will face criminal charges, police said.

The death is being investigated by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Delran Township Police Department. The lead investigators are BCPO Det. Brian Miller and Delran Township Police Det. Dennis M. Rooney.
