Man Who Scammed Burlington Co. Woman Out Of $16K Indicted: Prosecutor
The indictment against Yadiel Gonzalez of Camden was returned May 20, according to the prosecutor.
MOUNT HOLLY, NJ — A city of Camden man was indicted on May 20 for charges stemming from a woman being scammed out of $16,000, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott A. Coffina said.
Yadiel Gonzalez was charged with third-degree deception in connection with the scam, authorities said.
A caller told the woman was told her grandson had caused a car crash in Pennsylvania that left a pregnant woman hurt and her grandson in jail, according to authorities. During a subsequent meeting in Palmyra, the woman gave a courier $16,000 to bail her grandson out of jail, according to authorities.

"Schemes that prey upon the emotions of potential victims are rather common," Coffina said. “If your gut tells you something doesn’t seem right about a financial transaction, you should follow that instinct, step back and take another look at the situation. You do not have to wait until you’ve been victimized to contact law enforcement. If you think someone is trying to rip you off, call your police department."
