Modell's Distribution Center Moving Into South Jersey Warehouse

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ — Modell’s Sporting Goods is moving its primary distribution facility from New York to South Jersey. Modell’s is the primary tenant for the Matrix Warehouse located at the intersection of Georgetown Road and Old York Road in Bordentown, township officials announced.

Modell’s will occupy about 55 percent of the 312,000 square-foot facility. Matrix Development Group has yet to announce another tenant for the remaining 45% of the building as of Wednesday. No opening date for the store has been announced.

“The Township is happy to welcome Modell’s to Bordentown. In our meeting, the representatives from Modell’s made it clear that they are interested in being good neighbors and good corporate citizens,” Bordentown Mayor Stephen Benowitz said. “Most importantly, they confirmed that their tractor trailers will be utilizing Old York Road, and not Georgetown Road, for all entrance and exits to the facility. This will alleviate the concerns that the Township and many residents had about increased truck traffic on Georgetown Road.”

Modell’s has agreed to have all tractor trailers use York Road exclusively in the area, meaning most of the traffic will be closer to the New Jersey Turnpike, I-295 and Routes 206 and 130, officials said.

“Again, we are very pleased that Modell’s is coming to the Township and that they are committed to being good neighbors," Benowitz said. "They recognized the potential traffic issues, and quickly and voluntarily offered to mandate all their tractor trailers stay off Georgetown Road. This is a very positive outcome for the residents who live on Georgetown Road and for the communities that are serviced by Georgetown Road. The Township will continue to work with the developer (Matrix) and all current and future tenants to ensure these safety measures are enforced. We are also still advocating for further truck restrictions and traffic-calming measures on Georgetown Road through all federal, state, and local channels.”

Modell’s is a family-owned sporting goods retail outlet with 149 stores located from Maine down to Virginia. There are four Modell’s stores in South Jersey, including stores in Cinnaminson, Cherry Hill, Deptford and West Berlin.
