New Wawa Opens On Church Road In Cinnaminson

The new Wawa with gas is one of two "Super Wawas" that will be opening in the township.

CINNAMINSON TOWNSHIP, NJ — The new Wawa with gas is now open in Cinnaminson. A grand opening ceremony for the Wawa at 2114 Church Road was held on Thursday, Oct. 18. It officially opened the following day, and it is open 24 hours a day.

As part of the festivities, the Cinnaminson Police and Fire Departments participated in a hoagie-building contest which benefited local charities. Cinnaminson Mayor Donald Brauckmann and members of Township Committee, Wawa executives and staff, and local students also participated in the ceremony.

The 5,585 square foot Wawa, the first of two new so called “Super Wawas” to open in Cinnaminson offers fresh, built-to-order foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and surcharge-free ATMs.

The new store replaces a smaller Wawa which was previously located in the nearby Colonial Square Shopping Center. The other new store is located at Route 130 South/Taylor’s Lane and is scheduled to open this fall.

“Wawa is an expanding, highly successful company which provides both quality and convenience to their customers,” Brauckmann said. “The company’s management team is excited to keep Wawa’s core values right here in Cinnaminson Township by pledging to be a supportive member of our community.”

“We enthusiastically welcome this new Super Wawa to our community,” Township Committee Member and Liaison to Economic Development Ryan Horner said. “Wawa’s decision to expand here illustrates Cinnaminson’s attractiveness to new businesses and represents a terrific signal of future economic activity along this dynamic business corridor."

Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. Toward the end of the 19th Century, owner George Wood took an interest in dairy farming and the family began a small processing plant in Wawa, Pa, in 1902.

The milk business was a huge success, due to its quality, cleanliness and “certified” process. As home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960s, Grahame Wood, George’s grandson, opened the first Wawa Food Market in 1964 as an outlet for dairy products.

Wawa is now a chain of more than 800 convenience retail stores (over 500 offering gasoline). Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington, D.C. The stores offer a large fresh food service selection, including Wawa brands such as built-to-order hoagies, freshly brewed coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, built-to-order specialty beverages, and an assortment of soups, sides and snacks.
