4 Injured in Accident Involving Train, Car in South Jersey

The injuries were not life threatening. NJ Transit Service was suspended.

Four people were injured when a light rail train struck a car while traveling south in Riverton at 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning, according to NJ Transit officials. Those injured suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Two people on the train were injured and transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Two people in the car were injured and transported to Lourdes Health System in Camden.

The train was carrying 35 passengers and one crew member. It is unknown how many people were in the car.

The train struck the driver's side of a beige Mercedes, and those injured in the car had to be extricated by first responders, according to the Burlington County Times.

Tracy Brown, a student at Camden County College who was on the train, told the newspaper that the driver tried to rush the tracks, and was "lucky to be alive."

The driver, whose identity was not provided, was issued a summons for careless driving, according to NJ Transit.

NJ Transit's River Line Service was suspended between Cinnaminson and Palmyra, but services resumed around 12:20 p.m., with some delays.
