A South Jersey woman was sentenced this week to 15 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child in her home in 2021.

WILLINGBORO, NJ - A South Jersey woman was sentenced this week to 15 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child in her home last year, authorities said.

Rachel Karngbaye, 26, of Willingboro Township, pled guilty in September 2021 to sexual assault in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

An investigation into Karngbaye began in January 2021 after the victim’s mother contacted Willingboro police to report the assault. Details surrounding the assault are being withheld to protect the identity of the young victim.

Karngbaye was sentenced Wednesday in Burlington County Superior Court by the Hon. Philip E. Haines to a 10-year term for the second-degree charge. She must serve 85 percent of the term before becoming eligible for parole. She also received five years for the third-degree charge. The sentences will run consecutively, the prosecutor's office said.

Karngbaye will also be subject to the provisions of Megan’s Law and parole supervision for life upon release from prison. It was decided that she will serve her sentence in a prison instead of the state’s facility that treats sex offenders after an evaluation determined that she is not willing to undergo treatment.
