Palmyra School District Weighs Moving Sixth Graders To High School Building
A feasibility study will determine if the move would benefit the middle school students and programs.

A local school district is considering moving its sixth graders to the high school to best meet the needs of all its middle school students.
Currently, students in pre-school through sixth grade in the Palmyra School District attend the Charles Street School, and students in seventh through 12th grade attend Palmyra High School, according to the Burlington County Times.
However, the district is undertaking a feasibility study to determine if it would be better to have all middle school students in the same building for the purpose of supporting existing clubs, programs and sports, according to a letter posted on the district’s website.

Palmyra Superintendent of Schools Brian McBride emphasised moving the sixth graders is just a possibility, just as it is possible alternative options may emerge to accommodate the middle school students and programs.
- Curriculum and student achievement;
- Accommodations, including facilities;
- Cost estimates;
- Staff impact; and
- How both schools would be impacted.
A committee ideally consisting of a member of the Board of Education, the superintendent, the principals from both schools, the Curriculum and Instruction Supervisor, a Child Study Team supervisor and members of the Palmyra Education Association, the Palmyra PTA and families of students from both schools will study the issue.
