Police: Man Stole From ShopRite, Threatened Security With Needles

A Camden man threatened ShopRite security officers with hypodermic needles, Cinnaminson police said today, as he tried steal alcohol from the store.

At 8:17 p.m., Jan. 9, police were dispatched to ShopRite for a theft in progress. Police found a male subject physically fighting with store security. The subject ran from police but was apprehended in the parking lot. He resisted arrest, police said.

The subject had allegedly taken four bottles of Johnnie Walker Red and tried to leave without paying. When security approached the suspect, he threatened them with hypodermic needles. 

The suspect is identified as James C. Johnson Jr., 54, of Spruce Street in Camden. He was charged with robbery, resisting arrest, possession of a hypodermic needle, and shoplifting.

He was lodged in Burlington County Jail in default of $30,000 bail.
