Possible 'Mercy Killing' In Burlington County, Prosecutor Says

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — An 84-year-old man from Mount Laurel faced charges in connection with "what may have been a mercy killing" of his sick wife on Sunday, the Burlington County Prosecutor and Mount Laurel Police Chief said.

Dan Mook, fatally stabbed his 82-year-old wife and then turned the knife on himself afterward, but survived, according to authorities.

"The preliminary investigation indicated the defendant killed his wife because she was in poor health and he was concerned that she was suffering," authorities said of Sunday's event.

He faces charges of first-degree murder, third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and fourth-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to authorities.

Mook was listed in stable condition at Cooper University Hospital in Camden as of Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.
