Herb Conaway Wins NJ 3rd District House Primary, AP Says

The State Assembly member secured the Democratic primary, according to the AP, which hasn't declared a winner in the district's GOP race.

NEW JERSEY — State Assembly Member Herb Conaway has won the Democratic primary for New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District, according to the Associated Press.

The AP called the race for Conaway at 9:22 p.m. Tuesday, when he held 47.9 percent of votes in the five-candidate Democratic field. The AP hasn't declared a winner in the Republican race as of this writing.

With Rep. Andy Kim running for U.S. Senate, five Democrats and four Republicans are running for Congress in the district. The results will determine which candidate represents each major party during November's General Election.

Conaway leads a Democratic primary that also featured State Assembly Member Carol Murphy, who also serves New Jersey's 7th Legislative District. When the AP called the race, Conaway had 13,428 votes, while Murphy was in second with 7,377 votes (26.3 percent).

The 7th Legislative District in the State Legislature is comprised of towns in northwestern Burlington County.

New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District encompasses nearly all of Burlington County and portions of Mercer and Monmouth counties. Kim, a Democrat, has held the House seat since 2019.
