Rain Pushes Riverton's Townwide Yard Sale To Saturday, May 20

Multi home yard sale involves more than 100 sellers.

RIVERTON, NJ — Heavy rains kept sellers inside during the designated day for Riverton's much-anticipated townwide yard sale. Treasure Day -- traditionally held on the Saturday of Mothers Day weekend -- will take place under more friendly skies from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sat., May 20.

Homeowners and community groups in Riverton, Burlington County, will welcome hundreds of bargain-hunting visitors. This string of yard sales, bakes sales and other profitable activities draws residents from the area and from afar. They walk the streets of this Victorian-era borough soaking up the neighborly atmosphere while searching for deals.
Riverton residents and community groups – like churches and teen clubs – participate by paying a $10 nonrefundable fee. That gets them a packet including borough maps marked with sale spots and a sign proclaiming their address a “Treasure Day Home.”

How’s this for a multi-family sale: Each year the compact, one-square-mile borough boasts more than 160 Treasure Day sites. Proceeds benefit the Fourth of July festivities that attract residents, past residents, and residents of surrounding communities. The Riverton Fourth of July Committee runs Treasure Day as a fund-raiser.
