Report: Slight Decline in Crime in Cinnaminson

The Department of Law and Public Safety released its most recent numbers on Friday.

Overall, there was a slight decline in crime in Cinnaminson from 2012 to 2013, according to the the 2013 Uniform Crime Report released by the Department of Law and Public Safety on Friday.

Crime in New Jersey decreased by 7 percent from 2012 to 2013, the most recent year for which total numbers were available. Preliminary numbers for 2014 reflect a 7.7 percent decrease in overall crime and a 9.6 percent drop in violent crime compared to 2013.

The total crime index in Cinnaminson decreased from 382 in 2012 to 379 in 2013, according to the report.

Incidents of violent crime essentially remained steady, with 23 incidents reported in 2012 and 21 reported in 2013. However, this included two murders reported in 2013, compared to zero the previous year. There was one rape in 2013, compared to two the prior year, according to the report.

There was a difference of one as far as non-violent incidents were concerned, with 359 reported in 2012 and 358 reported in 2013.

Specific data included:

  • An increase in robberies, from nine to 13;
  • A decrease in aggravated assaults, from 12 to five;
  • Burglary was down from 78 incidents to 63;
  • Larceny thefts were up from 271 to 287;
  • There were eight motor vehicle thefts in 2013, and 10 in 2012;
  • There was one arson in 2013, and none in 2012.

The police department remained steady with 23 officers, including 22 men and one woman. The total estimated population was 16,409 in 2013.
