Riverton Man Earns Award for Contributions to Community Forests

Barry Emens earned the award during the statewide Arbor Day celebration in Moorestown.

Riverton’s Barry Emens received the Joyce Kilmer Award for outstanding contributions to community forests, during the State Arbor Day celebration in Moorestown on Friday, according to the Burlington County Times.

Emens was a major part of the bacterial leaf scorch research conducted in Moorestown from 2002 to 2004, according to the report. He is a member of the Burlington County Shade Tree Commission and the Community Forestry Council.

Moorestown was chosen to host this year’s celebration in honor of its 25th year as a Tree City. Tree City USA is a national program that provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America.

The Moorestown Tree Planting and Preservation Committee, in partnership with the Moorestown Garden Club, the Moorestown Improvement Association and the State Forestry Services Community Forestry Program hosted the event at Wesley Bishop Park.
