Rowan College at Burlington County Donates to Needy During Holiday Season

Food and toys were delivered during the college's annual Food and Toy Drive.

The Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) community ended the semester by donating to local charities to make the holidays a little brighter for those in need.

Students, employees and community members teamed up to deliver 100 boxes of food, each containing enough ingredients to prepare several meals, and 423 toys to local families in need and the community partners who serve them as part of the college’s annual Food and Toy Drive.

The college’s athletic teams got in the holiday spirit by contributing to the college’s annual Food and Toy Drive and the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst’s Operation Cookie Drop—a community service project that distributes cookies to dorm residents and troops mobilizing and demobilizing at the Joint Base during the holidays.

The men’s soccer team collected approximately 30 toys for children in the area, while the women’s basketball team gathered non-perishable goods, and the women’s soccer and men’s baseball teams donated more than 1,000 cookies for Operation Cookie Drop. Student-athletes baked cookies, received a donation from Victorian Savories in Burlington, and then delivered the sweet treats to McGuire Chapel at the base on Thursday, Dec. 10.

The RCBC Fashion Club decided to use their talents to create cosmetic bags to go to women suffering from domestic violence. More than 10 students designed and hand-made bags from decorative pillows that were donated by Macy’s Merchandising Group in New York.

“We wanted to use our fashion sense and knowledge and participate in a charity that was dear to us,” Fashion Club Vice President Arissa Crockett said.

The week of Christmas, Club Treasurer Insia Malik and Crockett delivered the bags filled with donated cosmetics and beauty products and personal heartfelt messages to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton, which provides domestic violence treatment services through Providence House.
