Search For Truck After Fatal I-295 Crash In South Jersey

A statewide search was underway this weekend for a truck driver involved in a fatal crash on a New Jersey highway, police said. The truck driver fled after striking a car, causing it to smash against a tree and flip over, police said.

The State Police say they're conducting a statewide search to identify the tractor-trailer that was involved the crash that killed John Farino, 60, of Cinnaminson early Sunday.

The accident happened around 5:12 a.m. when troopers from the Bordentown Station responded to a crash on I-295 northbound at milepost 45.9 in Westampton Township, Burlington County, police said.

The crash involved a Dodge Caravan and a tractor-trailer. When troopers arrived, they discovered Farino and his car, but the tractor-trailer fled the scene, police said.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Farino was driving northbound on I-295 when his car was struck in the rear by the tractor-trailer, police said.

As a result of the impact, the Dodge ran off of the road, struck a tree and overturned. Farino sustained fatal injuries as result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

The tractor-trailer is believed to be an older model Peterbilt, which has an elongated front with significant front-end damage.
