South Jersey Global Friendships Seek Host Families for Spanish Exchange Students
5 families are needed for 27 days in August.
South Jersey Global Friendships is seeking five host families for students from Spain who are coming to the South Jersey area in August.
The students will be in the region for 27 days, from Aug. 2-29 to improve their English and experience American life, South Jersey Global Friendships Coordinator Dan Herman said on Wednesday.
According to Herman, students have their own spending money, speak English to some degree, have been screened, and are fully insured. The students have varied interests which include sports (especially soccer and basketball), reading, movies, and computers.

Host families typically consist of at least two people who are interested in cultural exchange and can provide a friendly place for a student to stay. Host families provide meals for the student and help out with transportation when they can.
Students in the program take English classes in Haddonfield three days a week at Grace Church. Also, students will visit New York, Great Adventure, Hurricane Harbor, and Washington D.C. All host family members are invited (but not required) to attend trips and activities. Transportation is free and tickets are discounted.

Nine students and their Spanish chaperone have already been placed with families in Cherry Hill, Haddon Township, Collingswood, Palmyra, Lumberton, and Moorestown. We need just 5 more area families to get involved.
“Our motivation for becoming a host family was simply to ‘give back’ and create good karma. It was about giving – not receiving,” recent host Denise Moorhouse said. “I was unaware at the time that our experience as a host family would enrich our lives beyond measure.”
