It was the Philadelphia region in which the Root Beer float was first invented. It is said that Robert McCay Green invented the treat during the Franklin Institute’s semi-centennial celebration. On a particularly hot day, Green ran out of cold ice for the flavored drinks he was selling and used vanilla ice cream from a neighboring vendor, thus inventing a new drink. That tradition has continued for more than 144 years and the Root Beer float, or Black Cow as it is often called, is still a traditional favorite.
Reservations are encouraged by email Alex as aberol@lionsgateccrc.org or call 856-679-2362. The Root Beer Float event will be held in the Bistro on the first floor at Lions Gate, 1110 Laurel Oak Road, Voorhees. Free parking included.
