South Jersey Shooting Suspect Remains At-Large: Police

Samuel James, 26, has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Byron Turner.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man accused of fatally shooting a 24-year-old Burlington City man outside of the victim’s home Saturday night.

Samuel James, 26, with a last known official address of Route 130 North in Burlington Township, has been charged with murder and weapons offenses in the fatal shooting of Byron Turner, Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and Burlington City Police Chief Alan R. Snow said Sunday afternoon.

James is a fugitive and has also been known to stay in Burlington City and Camden. He is a black man, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 140 pounds. His image is attached to this post.

Turner was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his head outside his home at about 7 p.m. by Burlington City Police officers who were called to the scene.

He was pronounced dead at about 10 p.m. at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

A five-year-old girl who was in the area of the shooting was injured while running from the gunfire, but was not shot. She was treated and released from Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro.

An autopsy of Turner's body will be performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood. The investigation was conducted by detectives from the Burlington City Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
