South Jersey Teen Killed After Gunman Fires Into Crowd

The teen girl was shot in the head and died a day later.

A community is mourning, and a search is on for the killer after a South Jersey teen girl was shot and killed this week after a gunman fired into a crowd, authorities said.

India Simeon, 17, of Pemberton Township, was with her friends on Bermuda Circle in Willingboro Saturday around 7:30 p.m. when the gunman fired at the crowd, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

Simeon was shot in the head while a man was shot in the back; both victims were taken to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, according to the BCPO. Simeon died from her injuries Sunday night. The male victim was released from the hospital.

Michael Pinto, a spokesman for Pemberton Township High School, told nj.com Monday that based on conversations with teachers and staff who knew Simeon, she was a "neat" girl who touched the lives of many in the district. "She was a pretty active student," he said.

She tutored Emmons Elementary School students as part of the high school's Cooperative Education Program, according to the report. Patch will have more information as it becomes available.
