Students Charged In 2 School Threats In 1 Burlington County Town

A 15-year-old and a 12-year-old were charged in separate incidents in Evesham Township this week, police said.

Two students at Burlington County schools have been arrested in connection with making threats at their schools, police said. They were arrested in separate incidents this week.

In the first, a 15-year-old student at Cherokee High School was charged on March 7 with terroristic threats and false public alarm after police said he sent a snapchat message to a fellow student about his desire to “shoot up the school.” The student immediately reported this incident to their parents and school officials, the Evesham Township Police Department said.

School Resource Officers, along with Evesham Detectives and school personnel, worked quickly to identify the suspect, who was immediately taken into custody and admitted to the threat, police said. He was subsequently charged.

In the second incident, a 12-year-old middle school student was charged on March 9 with terroristic threats and false public alarm after police said he sent a snapchat message to a fellow student about his desire to “plan a school shooting.” Just as in the previous incident, that student notified their parents and their parents reported the incident to police.

School Resource Officers, along with Evesham Detectives and school officials again worked quickly to identify the suspect and immediately located him at his home. The suspect was arrested and charged. The identities of the suspects weren’t released due to their ages.

“We always take any kinds of threats against our schools very seriously,” Evesham Township Police Chief Christopher Chew said. “I am proud of the amount of passion and energy that our officers and detectives displayed in working together with the school staff to uncover the source of the threats and make sure any potential danger to our students and school staff was immediately neutralized.”
