Suspect Captured In Fatal Stabbing Of South Jersey Woman: Prosecutor

Rashon Causey was arrested Wednesday night. Police believe he and the victim had a child together.

The suspect in the fatal stabbing of a 37-year-old Mount Holly woman was arrested Wednesday night, Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and U. S. Marshal for the District of New Jersey Juan Mattos, Jr. said Thursday morning.

Rashon A. Causey, 38, of Burlington City, was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. at a home on the 100 block of Elm Avenue.

He is accused of breaking into Shanai Marshall’s house on the first block of Monroe Street and stabbed her multiple times just before midnight on Monday. The two have a child together, according to authorities.
Officers were called to the scene, and Marshall was subsequently flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where she was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed on Wednesday determined the manner of death was homicide and the cause was a stab wound to the head.

Causey has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Bail was set at $1,050,000, no 10 percent option. Following a first appearance in court on Thursday, the case was to be referred to a Burlington County Grand Jury to be considered for indictment.

His arrest was handled by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the Burlington City Police Department, the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Unit, the Cinnaminson Police Department K-9 Unit, the Lumberton Police Department, and the New Jersey State Police K-9 Unit.

The investigation was conducted by detectives from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mount Holly Police Department.
