Threat From Inside School Causes Delayed Dismissal For South Jersey High School: Police

Someone inside the school threatened "an act of violence" shortly before dismissal, police said.

BURLINGTON, NJ — A threat from inside Burlington City High School caused a delayed dismissal Wednesday, police said.

Officers held students back from leaving while they made sure the building was secure, Chief John Fine said. Police gave the all-clear for dismissal around 3 p.m. as officers patrolled inside and outside the high school.

According to city police, school officials got a threat "of an act of violence" from inside the school, shortly before dismissal.

"This was not an email, this was not a call from the outside coming in. This was from inside the school," Chief John Fine said in a Facebook Live.

Police posted their first update at 2:49 p.m. and said the high school was secure as of 2:59.

Police did not say if anyone was arrested in connection with the incident. School officials and police will continue investigating, police said.
