Trial Continues for Man Accused of Killing 1-Year-Old Cinnaminson Girl

Steven Donaldson is accused of killing Claudia Nunes in 2013. He pleaded not guilty.

The trial continued for a Shamong man charged with killing his girlfriend’s 1-year-old foster child in Cinnaminson in 2013 this week, the Burlington County Times reports.

On Thursday, the jury watched video of 32-year-old Steven Donaldson the night of Claudia Nunes’ death, according to the report.

The officer questioning Donaldson told him “the baby is dead because of something that happened that night,” and that “people need to know what happened to that baby,” according to the report. Donaldson replied by saying he was playing with the three-year-olds in the house the whole time.

Donaldson was indicted for murder in May of 2013. Donaldson was caring for the toddler—who had celebrated her first birthday the day before her death—while his girlfriend was at work on Feb. 12 of that year.

He allegedly called 911 just before 8 p.m. to report that Nunes had stopped breathing.

Law enforcement and emergency medical technicians were unable to revive her.

An autopsy performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood concluded the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge in November of 2013.

The trial is scheduled to resume on Tuesday.
