Updates on Budget, Pomona Road Construction

Also, township committee provides a progress report on Memorial Park improvements and addresses parking concerns at Cinnaminson Harbor.

For those who couldn’t make it to this week’s township committee meeting, there were a few interesting items that didn’t make it into a full story, but were nonetheless noteworthy. Here are a few leftover news and notes from the meeting:

  • Committeeman Don Brauckmann said work continues on the improvements to the Memorial Park restrooms. He remarked that, "It's going to look beautiful ... People will be pleasantly surprised compared to what we have now." The improvements, which were partially funded by a county park improvement grant, consist of a new roof and a more aesthetically pleasing facade, among other things.
  • Committeewoman Kathy Fitzpatrick said the budget subcommittee "continues to plod through the budget," with a final meeting scheduled for this Friday. She acknowledged the budget has been "delayed in introduction. Though she was hesitant to put a timetable on it, Fitzpatrick indicated it would be introduced soon. "We continue to sharpen our pencils to craft a streamlined budget," she said, and suggested more details about what the budget would look like would be available after Friday's subcommittee meeting.
  • Township engineer Fred Turek said construction on Pomona Road would begin Monday, April 22, with American Asphalt—the company awarded the contract—taking care of the curb work and handicap ramps at the start of the project. Actual paving would begin in early May, he said, taking approximately two days to complete. The total timetable for the project is only 30 days, so it "should be quick," Turek said. The township was awarded a $200,000 grant from the state Department of Transportation for the project.
  • Committeeman John McCarthy said 12 "No Parking" signs had been ordered by the developer of Cinnaminson Harbor after the township received a number of letters from residents expressing parking concerns. He said the signs should be up within the next two months.
  • Cindy Pierson announced that the annual Great Pompeston Rubber Duck Race would be held from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in Riverton Memorial Park. Free pizza and water ice will be available.

Township committee will hold its next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, in the Mayor's Conference Room at the municipal building.
