Vacationing Cinnaminson Firefighter Helps Deliver Baby
Fire Lieutenant Philip Drangula, of Florence, helped deliver a baby while on vacation at the Baker's Acres Campground in Little Egg Harbor.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — A Cinnaminson firefighter who was vacationing with his family over the Labor Day weekend came to the rescue of a pregnant woman in need.
Fire Lieutenant Philip Drangula, of Florence, helped deliver a baby while on vacation at the Baker’s Acres Campground in Little Egg Harbor, according to the Cinnaminson Fire department.
When he was notified that the woman wasn’t feeling well, the career fire lieutenant/EMT with the Cinnaminson Fire Department and part-time Gloucester County EMS EMT quickly determined the woman was about to deliver a baby.

He and a sheriff’s officer who was also on vacation at the campgrounds prepared for delivery while waiting for local EMS from the Parkertown Volunteer Fire Company. The delivery was in progress when Parkertown Fire Chief Frank Runzo arrived.
The delivery came with complications, though. The umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck, and they all worked together to remove the cord and get the baby breathing once delivered. The baby and mother are both doing well, according to Runzo.

“As an employer, we are extremely proud of Lieutenant Drangula,” Cinnaminson Fire Chief William Kramer Jr. said. “Emergency service workers are never off duty. They are always prepared to jump into action whenever and wherever an emergency occurs. The actions of Lieutenant Drangula and the sheriff’s officer over the Labor Day weekend prove that, and they are all to be commended.”
