Videos Of Shooting That Left BurlCo Man Paralyzed Released

No weapons were found on the man, according to nj.com. Footage released Thursday does not show the man holding a weapon.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Video released by Trenton police Thursday did not appear to show that a Black man had a weapon in the runup to a police shooting that left the man paralyzed.

The body camera videos are available at this link and appear to depict the events leading up to and including the police shooting of Jajuan Henderson, 29, or Burlington in a traffic stop in Trenton in February. (Editor's note: Parts of the videos contain graphic images, have profanity and — due to how police body cameras are designed to record — do not contain the audio of the first 30 seconds of Henderson's interaction with police.)

Police found no weapons in Henderson's possession after the shooting, nj.com reported.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office released the video and said simultaneously said an investigation into the incident continued.

Patch previously reported that Henderson’s mother and the New Jersey chapter of the NAACP sued the city of Trenton and its police department, alleging that the shooting was unwarranted.

"This incident and incidents like it are all too familiar," Richard Smith, president of the state chapter of the NAACP, said on March 18, the day the lawsuit was filed, nj.com reported. "These officers — sworn to protect and serve all —rushed to execution. These officers devalued the life of another Black man."

Trenton police have not said why five officers approached Henderson and his vehicle while it was parked in Trenton on Feb. 12, nj.com reported.

Henderson's family said he was reaching only for a bottle of iced tea when an officer fired at Henderson’s vehicle four times, nj.com said.

Henderson, who repeatedly declined to get out of his car before he was shot, was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction charges, according to nj.com.
