Video Shows Man Knocked Unconscious During Vineland Police Arrest

Authorities released a video of an arrest in which a man was knocked out during a struggle with a police officer. He then went into a coma.

Newly released video footage shows a man struggling with a Vineland police officer before the officer takes him to the ground, apparently knocking him out.

The footage depicts an arrest at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland that took place on Jan. 12. On Monday, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office released a pair of police worn body cameras that documented the incident.

The man, identified as 59-year-old William “Billy” Oslin by nj.com, suffered a fractured skull and came out of a coma on Jan.23, according to the news site. He was charged with obstruction of justice.

Vineland police had responded to a call for a crash near the hospital when a nurse approached the officer about a domestic incident in which a guy was hitting his wife and tried to drive away, according to the videos.

The officer comes across Oslin, who was sitting on the curb talking on the phone, drinking from a flask and smoking a cigarette. He said he was on the phone with a friend, who is a Philadelphia police officer.

Oslin told the officer the woman was his girlfriend until today, when she dropped him off at the hospital. He put his friend on speaker phone.

The video captures the man on the phone telling him, “You need to get some help buddy.” He also told him to "listen to what they’re telling you." The cop told him to listen to his friend about getting help.

After a short time, a second cop arrived. After the first cop explained the situation to the second cop, the second officer attempted to talk to the Oslin's girlfriend.

Oslin then approached them, ignoring the first officer who was trying to stop him. The man resisted the officer, who knocked him to the ground.

The first officer handcuffed him, and the second officer’s body camera showed him bleeding from the face. His eyes were closed, and he didn’t respond to the officers calling his name.

“Now I have to write another report,” the officer who knocked him to the ground said as he was handcuffing him. “Way to listen Bill.”

He asked for EMS, and told the other cop to roll him over. “I had to take him to the ground. He’s bleeding,” the first officer said into his radio. The videos end shortly after that.

The man was examined and taken to Cooper Hospital for a head injury, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office. He was initially listed in critical condition.
