YBCC Phoenix Butterflyer Jillian Bujanowski Commits to Widener University

The YMCA's Phoenix Swim Team has announced butterflyer Jillian Bujanowski as its first female swimmer to commit to a college team.

The YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties’ Phoenix Swim Team has announced butterflyer Jillian Bujanowski of Edgewater Park as its first female swimmer to commit to a college team. Bujanowski has committed to Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania for next fall.

Bujanowski started swimming at age seven at Riverdel Swim Club in Delran. She holds records at the Y for 50 free at 25.02 and 100 butterfly at 59.30. Additionally, Bujanowski has been swimming on Holy Cross Academy’s Varsity team for four years, where she holds a record for the 200 medley relay at 1:55.26.

“I am so excited that Jillian has decided to swim at Widener next year,” said Chris Brookover, head coach of the YBCC Phoenix and director of competitive swimming at the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties. “She only swam with the Phoenix team for one year, but is easily one of the hardest workers on the team.”

Bujanowski credits the YBCC Phoenix team with helping her become the woman and swimmer she is today. “I had always been a swimmer growing up, but I never really felt as great of a connection with any of the teams as I do with the YBCC Phoenix. Not only did I become a faster swimmer, but I made long lasting friendships with my teammates and grew as a person as well.”

In addition to touring Widener University, Bujanowski went on several recruiting trips to other schools. She ultimately decided that Widener was where she wanted to be after formally visiting the campus for the second time and meeting head coach Katy Peterson.

“The first time I went to Widener, I spent the majority of my time in the Nursing building and really fell in love with the program,” said Bujanowski. “When I came back for my second visit, I sat down with Coach Katy who talked about the swimming program with me. By the end of the conversation, I knew that Widener was the perfect fit for me, both academically and for swimming.”

Bujanowski resides in Edgewater Park with her parents and brother.
