YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties Hosts Project PRIDE Discussion

Four currently incarcerated, minimum offenders will address local youth and YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties’ REACH (Realize Education And Career Hopes) participants about the decisions and mistakes that caused each of them to lose their freedom during the Project PRIDE. The event will be held Wednesday, September 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Burlington County Library’s Auditorium, located at 5 Pioneer Boulevard in Westampton.

Hosted by the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties, Project PRIDE is a public safety initiative from the Office of Educational Services of the New Jersey Department of Corrections designed for youth as a preventive measure toward negative behavior and bad choices. The goal of Project PRIDE is to educate the audience on the harsh realities of making destructive decisions. Topics of conversation will range from the dangers of drug use to disrespecting authority, bullying and gangs.

The inmate speakers that participate in Project PRIDE have volunteered to share their experiences as a way to “give back” to their communities. The offenders are under the direct supervision of Senior Correction Officers at all times while they are in the community.
