1 Dead, Car Ignites Into Flames In Garden State Parkway Crash

A two-car deadly crash on the Garden State Parkway in Clark caused a rollover and another car to burst into flames early Monday morning.

CLARK, NJ — One man is dead and another is hospitalized with serious injuries following a two-car crash on the Garden State Parkway in Clark early Monday morning.

At around 2:40 a.m., a Land Rover driving south on the highway hit the back of a Lexus ES in the area of milepost 136.3 in Clark, said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele.

As a result of the crash, the Lexus slammed into the center median barrier and became engulfed in flames, said Peele.

The Range Rover overturned and hit a snowbank, said Peele.

The Clark Fire Department put out the fire.

The driver of the Range Rover, a 43-year-old man from Newark, was taken to University Hospital in serious condition and the driver of the Lexus, Christopher Meikle, 46, of East Orange, was taken to Rahway Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, said Peele.
