“We understand how worrisome a situation like this is to parents, and how frustrating it is for our staff and students,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Danny Robertozzi. “The safety of everyone in the building is our top priority, so we have to take every possible precaution. We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding, and our law enforcement officers for their quick and thorough action in ensuring everyone is protected.”
This is the second threat against the school in a week, a previous bomb threat was reported last Friday, Dec. 7 at the high school forcing students to shelter-in-place for several hours. Detectives do not believe the threats are related.(See Related: Bomb Threat Reported At Linden High School Friday)
The Dec. 7 threat was received by School No. 5 officials at around 8:45 a.m. about a suspicious package outside the building. At about 11:15 a.m. the school was declared safe and the shelter-in-place was lifted. The package was found to pose no threat, Linden School officials reported.
“Threats like this are disruptive, reckless, and needlessly endanger the lives of students, faculty, and first responders,” said Chief of Police David Hart. “We are using every resource available to identify those responsible in both of these cases and hold them accountable.”
Responding agencies included the Union County Bomb Squad, Union County Sheriff's K-9 unit, Union County Police Department, and Roselle Police Department.
The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information regarding this threat is urged to contact The Linden Police Juvenile Bureau at 908-474-8520.
