A is for an All- Inclusive Attitude

A necessity for a thriving Garwood

Effective leadership requires an all- inclusive attitude and daily practice.

Leaders with an all-inclusive attitude:

  • Welcome new ideas and new people
  • Don’t jump to conclusions
  • Don’t make assumptions
  • Don’t make decisions based on personal wants and opinions

  • Ask for feedback
  • Answer questions
  • Are comfortable with being challenged
  • Address each citizen's concern, not pick and choose what they want to hear and respond to
  • Don’t begin a sentence with “I have been doing this for 27 years” or “I have lived here my whole life” because these are phrases that squash new ideas, innovation and kill local businesses

All/ inclusive leaders make it a practice to:

  • Invite everyone to the table
  • Be upfront and open to people who are effected by their decisions
  • Encourage outside ideas, concerns and questions
  • Look for people to poke holes in their ideas so they can make sure they have thought of all the effects and consequences of their words and actions
  • Effective leaders know they don’t have all the answers and welcome people with outside experiences

Garwood families and residents deserve a mayor and town council who have an all-inclusive attitude. Our children deserve to grow up in a town where the adults practice inclusive behavior, a welcoming attitude and a commitment to honesty even if things don’t go their way. Our children deserve to see what it is like to advocate for what is right and what is true. Our children deserve an opportunity to know the difference between being popular and standing up for the best interest of others.
