Something Strong is Coming to The Gateway Family YMCA

Something strong is coming to The Gateway Family YMCA's branch located at 201 Tucker Avenue, Union later this fall. The Gateway Family YMCA is excited to announce plans for a new state-of-the-art Fitness Center, creating a vibrant fitness hub designed to help members reach their goals, support their well-being and live their healthiest lives.

The new Fitness Center represents a significant investment in The Gateway Family YMCA and the YMCA's commitment to providing an elevated member experience for healthy living. Featuring expanded fitness options, new equipment and additional space to grow stronger, stretch and recover, the new center is being designed around the evolving needs of YMCA members and the Union community.

"As we celebrate 60 years of serving the Union community, we are excited to continue investing in the future of our YMCA and in the health and well-being of the people we serve," said Jodi Pelano, Senior Executive Director of Branch Operations, The Gateway Family YMCA. "This new Fitness Center is built for our community and designed for an elevated experience. We are creating a space where our members can pursue their individual goals while continuing a stronger journey together."

BUILT FOR OUR COMMUNITY. DESIGNED FOR AN ELEVATED EXPERIENCE.

The Fitness Center transformation comes directly from listening to YMCA members and understanding what they want from their Y experience. Members have expressed a desire for a more comprehensive health and wellness experience under one roof—one where parents can work out while their children participate in YMCA classes, families can attend programs together, and members can easily combine aquatics and land-based exercise in a single visit.

The new Fitness Center will feature more than 35 specially selected pieces of new cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, along with free weights, barbells and additional fitness options designed to serve a wide range of ages, abilities and wellness goals.

The result will be more than a new room filled with equipment. It will be a new fitness experience created for the community.

The investment comes at a meaningful time for the branch as the YMCA celebrates 60 years of serving the Union community. For six decades, the YMCA has provided a place for generations of individuals and families to grow stronger, connect with one another and improve their health and well-being.

In 2025, The Gateway Family YMCA celebrated the milestone of serving the overall community for 125 years. Today, The Gateway Family YMCA is building upon that legacy while preparing the branch in Union for its next generation of members.

"Our members and community are at the heart of this investment," Pelano added. "As their needs continue to evolve, so will their YMCA. We are proud of the history we have built together in Union and incredibly excited about what comes next."

The new Fitness Center is scheduled to open in late fall 2026.Members and community residents are encouraged to follow The Gateway Family YMCA on social media or the website for sneak peek photos, progress updates and additional announcements as the transformation takes shape.
