Bomb Reported Near Rahway School, Causes Evacuation

RAHWAY, NJ — A suspicious call reporting a bomb in the area of a Rahway School caused an evacuation on Thursday morning.

The call was made around 9:45 a.m. to Rahway Police Department reporting a bomb in the area of the 300 block of Lake Ave.

"From the onset, the caller appeared to lack authenticity, but in an over-abundance of caution, students and staff were evacuated from Roosevelt School," police report.

The call was found to have come from Colonia where Woodbridge Police Department conducted an investigation and located the caller.

A thorough check of the school and surrounding area was conducted by Rahway Police Officers and school officials as a precaution.

No threat was found to the safety of the students or residents, police reported.

Once the building was determined to be safe, the students and staff returned to school to resume normal school activities.

"Students, staff, and residents were never in any danger, and there was no evidence to substantiate the threat," police report.

"However, the Rahway Police Department takes these matters very seriously, and will continue to investigate this incident," police continued. "We work cooperatively with the schools to ensure the safety of all students, and are using this as a training lesson from which to learn and improve."
