Car Crashes Into Garwood Home, Causes Structural Damage

One SUV lost control hitting four vehicles causing one to crash into a home in Garwood Sunday morning.

GARWOOD, NJ — A four-car accident caused one vehicle to crash into a home in Garwood Sunday morning, Garwood Fire Department reported.

The accident around 8:50 a.m. on Sunday in the 300 block of South Avenue when the driver of a Mazda CX-9 going east on South Avenue on Sunday morning lost control, hopped the curb, plowed through a fence, and hit a blue Mustang, causing it to be pushed into the front of the house, displacing the front porch off its footings, according to the homeowner Georg Eyerman.

"The Mazda then continued out of control, running over another fence and impacting a white minivan," said Eyerman. "This minivan, in turn, was driven into another fence and impacted a red Jeep SUV parked next to it."

The driver of the Mazda was not impaired or on her cell phone, instead she had taken her eyes off the road causing the crash, Garwood Police Chief Jim Wright said.

The Mazda driver was not issued any summonses at this time and the crash remains under investigation, Wright said.

The crash caused structural damage to the home, according to the Garwood Fire Department.

Garwood Fire Department Unit 1, Unit 2, Deputy 1, Engine 3, and G-15 came out to the scene. No major injuries were reported.

The Elizabeth Firefighters FMBA Local 9 Battalion 1, Rescue 1, Special Ops and Engine 7 also came out to help shore up the damage caused by the accident.
