Clark Drivers May Hit A Rough Patch During Westfield Avenue Paving

CLARK, NJ — Drivers may want to steer clear of part of Westfield Avenue as roadwork rolls ahead this week.

Paving and striping will continue between Brant Avenue and Raritan Road on Monday, August 31, and Tuesday, September 1, according to an alert issued to residents.

Clark Emergency Management is warning residents about possible thunderstorms over the next several days, with strong winds, flooding and power outages among the potential hazards. Because the Westfield Avenue paving schedule is weather-dependent, storms could delay or interrupt the work, and motorists should watch for township updates before traveling through the area.

Residents should monitor weather alerts, avoid flooded roads, secure outdoor items and seek shelter indoors when thunder is heard. Officials also recommend charging mobile devices, keeping flashlights ready and reporting downed trees, power lines or other hazards to PSE&G, Clark police or 911.

Township officials said motorists are “strongly advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes whenever possible.” Anyone traveling through the work zone should slow down, remain alert and follow officers’ directions.

The project could create delays along one of Clark’s major roads, particularly during busier travel periods. Residents who live or work nearby may also want to leave a little extra time before heading out.

Once completed, the fresh pavement and striping should provide a smoother, more clearly marked stretch of Westfield Avenue.
