Ducklings Rescued From Sewer Drain In Garwood

Garwood Police and DPW workers helped save seven ducklings that fell into a sewer catch basin.

Garwood, NJ -- Seven ducklings were in peril before Garwood Police Officers and Public Works Officers flocked to their rescue.

The baby ducks were seen running around in the middle of Center Street and Willow Avenue when they fell into a sewer catch basin on May 26 around 8 a.m., Garwood Captain Doug Stoffer said.

"The mother duck was causing a bit of a commotion," said Peter Collura, who owns Peter Collura Photography, which was located next to the incident.

Garwood Police Lt. James Wright, Officer George Suggs and Officer Joseph Ostrander responded to the scene. Garwood Public Works also came out with a tractor to open up the catch basin and retrieve the ducklings.

The ducklings were released in a nearby stream where the mother duck swam back to get them," Collura said.
