Police are looking for eyewitnesses after a woman was struck by a car outside a New Jersey supermarket on Saturday and later died, police said. The victim's hometown was revealed.

The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. when police responded to the intersection of Raritan Road and ShopRite Way in Clark, police said. Police received a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

A 71-year old-woman was struck by a vehicle exiting the ShopRite. The victim suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital in Newark where she died, police said.

TapIntoClark said the victim was a Metuchen resident.

The driver remained at the scene and called 911. The driver is also cooperating with the police investigation.
