Garwood Resident Courtney Kilmer Represents Community at New Jersey Girls State
Arthur L. Johnson High School rising senior earns City Councilwoman role during prestigious statewide leadership program.

Courtney Kilmer, a Garwood resident and rising senior at Arthur L. Johnson High School, recently attended the 2026 New Jersey Girls State program, held June 21–25 at Centenary University in Hackettstown, NJ.
Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, New Jersey Girls State is a prestigious leadership and citizenship program that allows high school students to learn about state and local government through hands-on participation. Delegates campaign for office, participate in mock elections, and take part in legislative and civic leadership activities.
Kilmer was selected to represent her community among 200 other outstanding young women from across New Jersey. During the weeklong program, she successfully ran for City Councilwoman, earning the support of her fellow delegates in the mock election. Her participation and election to this position reflect both her commitment to making a positive impact and the tradition of leadership fostered at Arthur L. Johnson High School. Congratulations, Courtney!
