Serving the Community Since 1900, The Gateway Family YMCA Celebrates Anniversary

The Gateway Family YMCA proudly announces the celebration of its 125th anniversary, marking more than a century of service dedicated to strengthening community, improving health and well-being, and empowering individuals and families throughout Eastern Union County and Northern Middlesex County.
Founded in 1900, The Gateway Family YMCA has evolved alongside the community it serves—responding to changing needs while remaining rooted in its mission to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. From youth development and aquatics to wellness programs, housing support, and emergency shelter services, the Y has remained a trusted partner and cornerstone of community support for generations.
“For 125 years, The Gateway Family YMCA has been a place of community, hope, and opportunity,” said Melynda A. Disla, President and Chief Executive Officer. “This milestone is a celebration of the people—members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners—who have made our mission possible and who continue to help us meet today’s challenges with compassion and innovation.”

Throughout its history, The Gateway Family YMCA has expanded its reach and impact, offering programs that address critical community needs such as food insecurity, safe housing, youth mentorship, chronic disease prevention, and family support services. Today, the Y serves over 20,000 individual and families annually across multiple branches and program sites, providing services that strengthen the social fabric of the region.
