This fall, the Libraries of Union County Consortium in Union County, New Jersey will sponsor a series of virtual visits to explore the subject of Race, Empowerment and Experience. In light of the intense and widespread discussion of race and racism in America, our libraries are committed to providing online platforms for information and discussion.

Ibram X. Kendi is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University and the founding director of the BU Center for Antiracist Research. He is a contributing writer at The Atlantic and a CBS News correspondent. He is the author of many books including Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, which won the National Book Award for Nonfiction, and three #1 New York Times bestsellers, How to Be an Antiracist; Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, co-authored with Jason Reynolds; and Antiracist Baby, illustrated by Ashley Lukashevsky. In 2020, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

About the Libraries of Union County Consortium
The Libraries of Union County Consortium (LUCC) was incorporated on April 12, 1985. The consortium is made up of all 20 public libraries in the county along with with Union County Community College. The purpose of the consortium is to promote cooperative library activities among its members so that a higher quality of library services for residents within Union County can be provided, and to provide informational, recreational and educational programs at the local and county levels. The directors of these libraries meet regularly throughout the year to share information and participate in accomplishing these purposes.
