Johnson Boys Basketball Falls to Bishop Ahr
Though they had a comfortable lead at halftime, the Crusaders couldn't finish the job.
The Records: On Monday, Jan. 24, the Arthur L. Johnson (3-9) boys basketball team hit the hardwood in a match up with Bishop Ahr (8-4) at 4 p.m. at home.
The Final Score: 63-51, Bishop Ahr. Johnson was able to maintain a comfortable lead heading into halftime with the score at 34 - 25. The Johnson offense was spread fairly evenly among the team and everyone was playing his part. However, momentum began to change once the second half got under way, when Bishop Ahr was able to outscore the Crusaders by 21 points and regain the lead. Bishop Ahr’s Roger Kilgore and Kenny Virden put up 15 points each to help mount the come back and the Crusaders weren’t able to recover. In the end, the Crusaders just couldn’t find enough scoring power to hold onto the lead and Johnson fell to Bishop Ahr in a game that looked like it would end in victory.
The Hero: Johnson’s junior shooting guard Dan Hogan had 15 points on offense matching the game high. His knack for getting a shot off from just about anywhere on the court makes him the team's go-to scoring threat. Unfortunately, defense proved to be the deciding factor in this game and the Crusaders just didn’t have it down the stretch when it mattered most.

The Quote: “We played a great first half," said Head Coach Dave Kennedy. "In the process of learning how to win, we’re still going to get caught up at times. Sometime down the road hopefully we can play the full 32 minutes.”
What’s Next: The Crusaders lost to New Providence on Jan. 27, and followed that up with wins against Brearley and Roselle Park. The Crusaders will tip off against Oratory Prep tonight, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. away.
