Kindergarteners Exhibit Kindness At The Westfield Area YMCA

Kindergarten students put non-food Halloween items into special treat bags for the kids at Children's Specialized Hospital.

This provided an opportunity to explore math skills (sorting and counting), social studies (helping people in our community) and language arts (creative writing on how it feels to help others and creating cards to share our Halloween spirit).

Press release from Westfield Area YMCA:

Nov. 2, 2020

One of the strongest lessons the Westfield Area Y hopes to impart on its Kindergarten students is the power of kindness to help ourselves, our family, our classmates and our community. The Y asked each Kindergarten student to bring in non-food Halloween items so they could make special treat bags for the kids at Children's Specialized Hospital. This provided an opportunity to explore math skills (sorting and counting), social studies (helping people in our community) and language arts (creative writing on how it feels to help others and creating cards to share our Halloween spirit). The children's insight, empathy and kindness truly blossomed.
