Kitty Dumped, Left For Dead In Garwood Lot Needs $5,000
Phoenix had a horrific injury on his neck and his vet bill to save him was $5,000. SARA Inc. is looking to raise funds to cover the cost.

GARWOOD, NJ — A badly injured kitten dumped in a Garwood parking lot and left for dead is in need of $5,000 to cover medical procedures that saved his life.
Funds are being raised to help cover the cost to save the kitty's life by a Summit Animal Rescue Association (SARA Inc.), a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization.
The cat now named Phoenix was dumped in the parking lot of Pet Valu on South Avenue in Garwood last week. He was skinny, hungry, yet very sweet, said Julia Melton, a volunteer with SARA.

"The employees rescued him and called us. It was discovered he had a horrific injury on his neck. One that requires twice a day in hospital bandage changes. He also needs an ultrasound," Melton said. "He is doing well despite the condition. But he needs some extra care to get him through the tough situation he was left in."
A vet who looked at Phoenix's neck injury believes it was caused by a car engine burn.

"Injury wasn't new as some of the wound healed over but badly infected," Melton said. "The bill to save this poor guy is at $5,000, but he has made it and looks like he has a nice long life ahead."
Melton set up a fundraiser for SARA last week which has already raised just over $1,000 of the $5,000 goal. To donate click here or checks can also be sent to SARA Inc., 262 Myrtle Ave., Garwood NJ 07027.
"We urgently need funds and a possible home when he is better," Melton said.
SARA is also hosting a spaghetti dinner at the Garwood Knights of Columbus at 37 South Ave. on Sunday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost for adults is $14 each and kids under 10 is $9 each. There will also be a Tricky Tray. Proceeds will go to help Phoenix's rescue.
