Linden Police Officer Attacked, Shoots Dog In Self Defense
Police went to check on the welfare of a homeless man who was living in a make-shift shelter with his 4 dogs when the attack occurred.

LINDEN, NJ — A Linden Police Officer was reportedly attacked by dogs and shot one in self defense on Wednesday morning.
At around 9 a.m., officers went to check on the welfare of a homeless man who was living in a make-shift shelter with his four dogs in the area of Bedle Place and Worth Avenue.
As the officer approached the shelter, he was attacked by the dogs, and fired two shots in defense, wounding one of the dogs, Linden Police report.

The officer was treated for a dog bite at Trinitas Regional Medical Center and released. The dogs were taken
by the Newark ASPCA Humane Society for evaluation and treatment, police report.
The homeless man was released from the scene and referred to an assistance program.

The incident remains under investigation by the Linden Police Department Internal Affairs Unit in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the NJ Attorney General.
